Handmade Shampoos and Conditioners

All our shampoos and conditioners are handmade in small batches, with gentle ingredients that are kind to your guinea's skin.  They are tested on humans first before guineas:)

If you look at a bottle of shampoo, first on the list of ingredients are usually Sodium Laureth Sulfate or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS).  These are detergents with excellent wetting / cleansing properties, but they can be very irritating to the skin causing redness and dryness.  Here at Gorgeous Guineas we have NEVER used these ingredints as they are far too harsh for use on guineas.   

Most Pet Shampoos don't have any ingredients listed on the labels, so you don't actully know what is in them:(  If they cost just £2.99 for a 250ml bottle, you can bet it will contain SLS / SLES.

Our shampoos are based on ingredients derived from plants that are kinder to the skin and include:

Cocoamidopropyl Betaine (a detergent derived from Coconut Oil)

Decyl Glucoside (a detergent derived from Sugar)

An Olive Oil based fat-restoring (conditioning) agent

We use the minimum amout of preservatives, and any colour in the shampoo comes from the Essential Oils or other active ingredients.  

Conditioning Shampoos

Our handmade shampoos are made using gentle ingredients that are kind to your guinea's skin.  They lather well, smell lovely, and can help the condition of your guinea’s skin when used regularly.  We recommended that you shampoo your guineas every 4 - 6 weeks to help prevent skin problems occurring.  For guineas over 12 weeks of age.

Available in 5 different varieties (matching Conditioners available for the first 3 types):

Origional 4 Oil - with Lavender, Lemongrass, Tea Tree and Patchouli Essential Oils.

Lemon Tea Tree & Lavender – a lighter smelling shampoo, ideal if you don’t like the aroma of Patchouli.

Lavender – for guineas with sensitive skin, also good for Rex guineas.

Just For Boars - one for the boys with the woody aroma of Cedawood and Sandalwood.

Posh ‘n’ Go – luxury silk protein shampoo for long haired guineas.  More information here.

Kind And Gentle Shampoos

Designed especially for mums-to-be and babies.  

Pregnant Sow Shampoo - a base shampoo without any Essential Oils.  We don't recommend that you use any products containing Essential Oils during your guinea's pregnancy as they have not been tested for safety.  

Mini-Pig Shampoo – designed especially for guineas under 12 weeks who need a gentle shampoo.  DO NOT USE THIS SHAMPOO ON PREGNANT SOWS.

 Therapeutic Shampoos

Our two Therapeutic Shampoos have added active ingredients to help with specific skin problems:

Lice ‘n’ Easy – effectively removes Lice that are notoriously difficult to shift.

Manuka & Neem – for use in conjunction with Melts / MicroNeem where guineas have a Fungal and / or Parasitic skin problem.
